Professional School is centered around the concept of deferring short-term rewards for the longterm. Sometimes this is more manifest than otheres. Discounting the short-term deferment of longterm rewards I took when I missed a class to get Andrew off to the airport and off to Bhutan (not to say sending a significant other away is ever exactly a reward, unless you should be shortly consulting my previous family law practice for a way out, but you know what I mean about additional time spent together and all "parting is such sweet sorry" goodbyes and so on... ok I'll stop amending myself and return to the sentence I began sometime last week), this week is revving up to be a lot of deferment.
Yesterday, an all clinic meeting stretched well into my evening. They ironically covered an entire section on work-life balance shortly before the anxiety-attack inducing round of Ethical Jeopardy, which we felt unduly anxious to win counter to our stereotypical collaborative ADR tendencies; more appropriately, we tied for first with another clinic and decided to share the first prize, letting them keep the little "We're Number One" - foam finger first...
Today, my Topics in Health Law will be breaking after our regular class, only to pick up an hour later for Dr. Jones' Lecture about his new book about David Vetter - The Boy in the Plastic Bubble - at the Health Sciences Building. Because of this additional two to four hour commitment, we won't be having a regular class session next week (pleasure deferred).
Tomorrow, I begin mediation training and this continues (with lunch and sleep breaks) until 5:30 on Sunday evening. It's an incredible opportunity - a two-weekend CLE that costs participating attorneys nearly $900 all for the regular price of credits. The timing, however, could be more ideal, considering the fact that...
On Monday, I have my Rules of Professional Ethics exam - closed book, directly from the bar exam itself, and essentially our "final" for the class. This leaves me torn, as I try to determine whether it would be academic suicide to spend my Monday (pre-exam) lunch break attending a lecture on the Heath Care reforms in Congress featuring all my favorite teachers. After my test, I have a series of write ups due about the mediation training, some additional journalling requirements and a response to the Dr. Jones Lecturedue.
Wednesday, I have a lunch field trip to Harborview in order to attend a bioethics presentation that hopefully makes it back in time for
So I guess I know where my upcoming weekend technically is: at some point around Thursday the 15th.

Okay, fine, just steamroll over my so called busy schedule with one that's at least three times so! So when I come down next Thursday will be your first break since last Monday, right? WOW! I'm sending energy and relaxing a lot this weekend on your behalf!
