It was such an absurdly sunny (yes also cold) weekend that our original plans involving being indoors faded into being outside. Andrew, of course, had his FIRST RACE OF THE MOUNTAIN BIKING SEASON!! This time, I actually managed to remember warm clothing/base layers/etc.. I did not, however, bring the four dollars in cash that would have made me susceptible prey to the clever girl scouts who had tabled next to the registration table. It was an interesting location - the back of a state park in Federal Way, smack dab in the middle of a fairly affluent McMansionary set atop a hill. It was a fun contrast to middle between the muddy forest and the well-trimmed three-car-garaged mini-estates.
On Saturday, I practiced for my wood wanderings by finally making it out to Discovery Park (for one of our first dates Andrew and I had the option of going to Carkeek or Discovery Park and ended up at Carkeek, so I feel it's a very full circle thing to have done... fortunately we agreed on departure that we did not in fact have to break up, having passed that milestone). It was flush with people and frigid with breeze. By the time we scaled down the cliff (or smally spaced stairs) to get to the beach and lighthouse, we found genuine surfing conditions (albeit gelid). Waves that I could not capture on camera. I did take some photos (of course!), although I could not see the screen well enough in the bright glare of this February sunlight so I had no idea what I was shooting.
Nonetheless admire my talent:
I have seen almost the identical set of pictures from other people who have been here and/or almost anywhere in the pacific northwest, but there's something about imposing my imprimatur on an experience but having "taken" my own photos from the experience.
