It's becoming some sort of tradition that I must - in making any playlist - delete at least half of the playlist while I am making it. My lemons-from-lemonade-Pollyanna take on the tradition is that it's some sort of test wherein I recall the really good selections and have to substitute the forgettable ones with something better, thus scattering the dross, putting my musical taste through the purifying fire to make a truly perfect list baptized in my own errors.
My less jovial nature thinks that iTunes sucks and is constantly putting me into awkward positions where I think I am attempting one thing while I am in fact accomplishing something entirely different. I am amazed that I continue to remain in possession of a good chunk of my favorite music. I somewhat detest iTunes, although I appreciate the ability to categorize according to genre and subgenre and some of the other features hand made for dj's and collectors like me. But at the end of the day it hates me about as much as all apple products do (which is to say, quite a bit - I can't look at an iPhone without it making lots of unhappy beeping noises and going into iTaser mode (oh I'm sure they have an app for that)). iTunes can be generally more agreeable, but it's none-too-plussed that I continue to embrace an ante-diluvian silver-pink sony walkman instead of something with an "i" in front of it's otherwise banal name (my real question being, when they move into the personal hygiene business, will it be iToilet-Paper or iToilet iPaper?? all bets are on - I like iTP) for my musical needs. It takes great pains to express this to me by refusing to transfer music directly to it and messing up most attempts to transfer music in sneakier and more creative ways. I am at battle with my iTunes all the time, basically. I'm considering moving, but re-categorizing genre and subgenre and notes etc. of over 80 days' worth of music is a pain. I'm still having to do some tweaking after my last large musical acquisition. I should manage to finish this up briefly before my centennial if no more music is ever made. Still it would be nice if it didn't always wait right until I am about to call my lovingly labored lists perfect and complete before mistaking a slight sneeze as a "yes delete this entire list, thank you"
